Dealing With Your “Investment Emotions”
Wow……what interesting times we life in. The world is ever changing and throwing up challenges for us and the economic cycles are something that affects us all in some way.
With all the gloomy financial news we are being bombarded with in the media, investors could be tempted to lose focus on the bigger picture and the original reason as to why they began investing in the first place.
In these times it’s very normal to experience strong emotions in relation to how you feel about your investments and what the future holds. You may experience “fear” and become “confused” and even “paralysed” and in regard to protecting and building your wealth.
It can mess with your psyche and result in you feeling “stressed” about your investments and being tempted to act in an uninformed manner much to the detriment of your investment portfolio. Potentially worse is to not act at all.
You should try to avoid being discouraged by all the uncertainty.
By the same token, faking a positive attitude regardless of what is happening around you could be deemed to be unhealthy for your soul if it results in you suppressing your true feelings. Emotions are a part of our makeup and to some extent drive the core of our very existence……they should be recognised and acknowledged.
Accept your feelings and take “time-out” to reflect on how far you have come along your investment journey and where you will decide to head in the future.
Work on formulating a new plan which encompasses all the aspects that you’re conscious and sub-conscious need to be comfortable with. The allow yourself to move forward in a positive and decisive manner.
At Property Friends as you know…..we are biased. Biased that is towards property and further to that, we are committed to following a step by step plan that matches both our belief and our emotional comfort levels in order to continue to build a healthy property portfolio.
The reasons as to why we first started investing in property have not changed and the fundamental principles of property investment have not changed. Hence any distractions that arise are dealt with by us and then we allow ourselves to move on, getting back to the main task at hand.
When you rationally sort through all the confusion and fear mongering that is being purported, you might actually find that today’s circumstances and the position you are currently in, are a magnificent opportunity that only appears a few times in a life time.
As usual, it’s only in hindsight that most people can see and subsequently rue the opportunities that they missed to massively increase their long term wealth.
